Thoughts on Mint 82 CE Value?
$18K is a bit on the high side, especially if it's a private seller. I once saw a pristine 82 CE on a Vette dealer's lot for $16.5K asking price.
Good luck,
Twoinchgroup

BTW the CE is a very collectable car.

Do you look at the classifieds and see the old Mustangs/Camaros and the over 20K prices, and wonder why? Old English cars are baffling to me as well. I have had many of them, but there is no way an MGA is worth more than any Corvette in similar condition. XKE's have come down in price a bunch in the last year or so.
Corvettes are easier to live with and work on and get parts for and easier to sell.
Buy the CE, and never say "I shoulda"

We get lots of compliments on it, the color and stripes make it a looker, and I haven't run into anyone that didn't like it.
As long as the one your looking at is in great condition, you shouldn't have to much to worry about with it. if it is used much, you might run into a couple of problems, the rear hatch hinges tend to stretch, and they are not in stock anywhere, mine are stretched, and I have a decent air leak. One of these day's I'm going to try to re-bend them.
Also make sure the hubcaps are on real good, although I just saw them for sale (same manufacture as originals) in Rik's Corvette parts catalog.
I don't know how you are about your vettes, but if I had the choice I would buy another CE if something happened to this one. And one day, I will buy another 82 to hot rod....
Let me know if you need any other info. :seeya
I was looking at a CE that had 10K miles on it, but the seller wanted $21,000 and wouldn't budge. It was totally intact, however, the interior had black mold around the windshield where it meets the dash (from being under a tarp) and absolutely nothing was done year after year except starting it up. That could spell a world of trouble. I personally wouldn't want to drive a car that had 21 year old tires on it nor at that price, should I have to pay to replace them. AC was still R12 and no upgrades whatsoever was done.
Although my CE had 34K miles, the owner was very meticulous about it's maintenance year after year and had the receipts to prove it. The AC was upgraded to R134a (so I didn't have to deal with it) break lines were changed and the car was completely repainted (5K including gradient decals and stripes) new tires, new shocks, yada yada.
Eventhough this car was not driven seasonally but 3000 miles a year, time does have a way of deteriorating auto parts without being exposed to the elements. The previous owner and his wife didn't have kids and this car was their baby. They owned it for 18 years. Carfax was also done and the miles were pretty much right on.
So, although you can buy a very low mileage CE and pay the money for it, the most important factor that you need to consider is how well this car was maintained year after year as well. I would not hesitate to drop the bucks for a low mileage car, but proper annual care for 21 years is the key.
