Hey I'm famous! :jester That is the crossmember I have on my car, in fact that is my car :D Got it from Bow Tie Overdrives, it was one of the first they sold. I think it was $180 at the time. There's more pictures HERE of it.

Since it is not a straight tube and square, will it be as strong as original ?
That was my thought. The original is a massive frame cross member. Will a small tube taking its place be as strong? Don't think so, but is that a real issue with the massive C3 frame?

From what i remember taking mine out, its very very thin metal...except on the mounts. Mine's also been hacked up, and the welds arent to great. Looks like stamped sheetmetal.

My gut feeling is that if the steel is the same as what you would use for a roll bar, it should do the trick

Still, are there any chassis reinforcements that can help with frame flex?

dittos. although i'm not really sure how much advantage that particular cross member has for frame stiffening, i would want it as straight as possible. personally, i think the position of the factory crossmember only accomplishes two things: 1) supports the trans and 2) ties the framerails together to prevent a harmonic frequency down the length. it has no significant torsional stiffness. this one is probably a good compromise for converting cars over to a different trans.
still working on the stiffness issues of the c-3 frame. :smash:
