I'm trying to decide on a hood for my 71. I decided I like stock look over L88 and will deal with hood clearance problems. I'm not 100% sure I wouldn't like a cold-air setup though..So I guess I'm undecided. I did a search and found some conflicting info. I'll install a wiper door if I have to, but I have none of the parts so I wouldn't mind not needing to.
As I understand, stock 73-later hoods will bolt up and eliminate wiper door, but then it would not line up correctly with the top of the fenders. Is this correct?
Do the big block hoods give any more clearance? If so, about how much?
Will a long style L88 hood still have the fender issue?
Does anyone make a long style hood of any type that will line up with top of fenders correctly?
I have heard some complain of visibility with L88 long hood. Anyone with pictures from the cockpit?
Any pictures of long L88 hood? Any pics of later 73+ hood on 68-72 cars?
Thanks and oh yea, my aftermarket hood is for sale.
A standard long hood will not line up with the fenders. Big block hoods give about 2" more clearance near the front of the air cleaner. A standard long L-88 hood will still have the fender issue. Ecklers makes a long L-88 hood with the proper height and slope at the windshield to mate up with the fenders of a 68-72 car. They run about $550.
I've never done any measurements, but I'd say yes. The LT-1 intake and Holley carb fit under that hood, but I'm sure they wouldn't fit under a standard flat hood.
That's not bad at all. I'm 6'5" so no issue there. I based that on a post I read from someone who hated it because they claimed they couldn't see out the windshield anymore. Looks great. Do you have side profile pics of your car you care to share?
