Default Drag strip experiences....

Let's assume it's a typical Sat/Sun weekend...strip opens early afternoon...

how many runs can you do before they open 'competition'??

how many runs does it take to get to 'eliminations'...???

how many runs for the 'money'???.....

what time do you go leave for home/date/party???

do you win?? also ran??? or go home early???

how often do you break?? have to get a trailer home???

I have run the Corvette Challenge here in NJ. You will usually get 3 practice/time runs to adjust your dial in. After that it is eliminations. Depends on how good a driver. It starts at 9 eliminations start at around 1 I'm usually on my way home at 1.15  after a loss.
On a night of test and tune if it is not to busy I get there at 5 and usually get in around 6 or 7 runs and am home at around 10:30 or 11. I live about 15 minutes from this track.
I was supposed to go tommorrow to a Corvette fun and run but will probably be rained out. This is an event for Vettes only and we have the track most of the morning. I have made as many as 20 runs in a 4 hour span with a little cool down time.
I have broke once needing a trailer (rear broke) and broken a motor mount that took out the fan shroud so the day was done but I was able to make it home. I have had the trans linkage lose a pin and got locked in 1st gear but was able to fix tha tat the track. Lots of different track experiences for me. Got a runner up once in the Fun and Run but that was my best.

Typically our drag strip doesn't have "organized" racing so...
if it is a slow night you could possible make 40-80 runs, busy nights 7-10
N/A
$6 for entrance and to race all night, gates open at 6, racing starts at 7 closes at 12midnight
12:15pm
win 75% of the time
broke things about 5 times, never had to get a trailer home

We are very fortunate to have five strips in the Dallas area and another six within a three hour drive. As previously stated, you usually get three test runs to "dial in" then eliminations. That is very common for local races. If you go to a "National" like an IHRA or NHRA race you will usually get three qualifying passes but it takes two days...its the worst case of hurry up and wait you can imagine. But the atmosphere at the big races is great, the sound of fuelers, the smells, the crowds, the WOMEN !!! oh man is it a great place to spend a long weekend.

You would have to check and see if your car will fit into a class that runs during the big races, street cars are usually relegated to Divisional races which are "NHRA Light" still fun with just as much waiting.

I have never taken my Vette to the track but have been actively involved in drag racing at the national level for ten years, I can tell you anything you want to know about drag racing except how to race a vette, is that useless or what???? Like **** on a bull....
