How to replace A/C harness without major surgery?
After rebuilding heater box and replacing with ductwork - discoverd A/C harness routs behind and tight fit. Old wire harness too crisp. Can I rout new wire harness through with string or maybe an old dipstick? Yes, desperation has set in. I dread removing all that ductwork again. :(
Also what can I replace that firewall grommet with? None of the parts cataloges list it.

I did that surgery about 2 years ago. I bought a new harness and it came with a grommet. I had the right side dash pad off, and the center console out, and the gauge cluster hanging there. I used a transmission dip stick to pull the harness from the inside to the outside. The hardest part was getting that grommet seated. My wife was inside with a long large screwdriver pushing on the grommet while I was on the outside pulling on the harness. It wasn't easy, but it did fit...yes it was a tight fit. You about have to have someone working to help you, and it helps to spray some silicone on the grommet when you try to seat it. I hope this helps. :smash:

Try these people for the A/C harness, but ask to be sure it comes with that big grommet. http://www.lectriclimited.com/ I don't think they will sell the grommet without the harness
You should be able to get it started in the hole because the end is small, but seating it will be a tug-of-war. Apply a little rubber lube like the stuff used by plumbers for soil pipe rubber seals, "ty-seal lubricant" should help it to slide nice.
