Default Oil pan leaks. Help!!!!

I bought a new oil pan last year, installed with the 4 piece gasket set, rear seal still leaked a little. Just took it off and replace gasket set with the one piece rubber gasket set, installed dry as recommended. New rear main seal installed correctly, all surfaces clean enough to eat off of and it now leaks worse than before both front and rear. Pan is straight but could the front and rear half circle been made too large? Should I take it apart again and goop the rubber gasket with RTV on both sides?? I don't want to do this again and I just put in a new clutch as well and don't want to ruin it with oil either. This is on the 72, sbc. :mad

Be very carefull with RTV. It wll come off inside and clog the oil screen and filter. I have seen engines ruined this way.

OK, RTV may not be a good idea, any other suggestions?

I clean the bolting surface up with a wire bruch insert on my dremel. Then apply some Indian Head (I think). It comes in a little brown bottle and it's really, really thick and sticky. I let that sit and become tacky, a small amount goes a long way. Then stick the gasket to the to pan and let it stand for a couple of hours. The problem I've always had is that the gasket sitting on the pan will always get touched against something and move before I get it bolted up. I also use a bit of RTV around the rubber tabs on the front and back of the pan. NO LEAKS.

I've tried fixing mine 7 billion different ways.

I finally gave up and slid a piece of cardboard under the car to soak up the leak!!

Arghh!

(I feel your pain) :D
