Been spending the day getting the vette ready for the Grand Canyon(PA) cruise next weekend. Finally got around to chasing these rattles. Tryin to make it ride quiet like a Caddy. Good luck huh? Well here is what solved so far. Mind you I havnt spent a dime yet.

Noise:
Spare tire carrier was thunkin. Solution: put spare back in and tighten up good.
Noise:
Rear window trim buzzin from choppy idle and flowmaster 2 chambers: Solution: Tighten screws to no avail. Fold small pieces of matchbook paper and tuck between window ans trim. Quiet now.
Noise:
Loose luggage rack screw causing clanking on bumps. Solution: Retainer was spinning in socket and wouldnt tighten. Remove screw and retainer and wire brush screw and apply anti seeze compound to retainer. Re-install retainer and screw and tightened up good.
Noise:
Gas cap lid vibrating. Solution: Added small dab of black rtv to top of bumpers. Quiet now.
Noise:
Rattleing exhaust tips. Solution: drilled small hole and added set screw to secure tips. Rattle gone.
Noise:
center cap screws loose. Solution: Tightened screws.

Havnt had a test drive yet but expect to have a little less "shake and rattle", making the "roll" part a little more pleasant.

Anyone else have stories of typical rattle and noise areas that are easiely fixed? Anything I could be overlooking?

 

My car just seems to run more smoothly when the top is down. The convertible top makes so much noise it is unbelievable. It sounds like a rattle trap. Top down is smooth sailing.

Rattles annoy me. My Avalanche has one in the dash that was killing me. I killed it. Nice and quiet now.

 

One more rattle somewhere in the rear deck. Cant find it on my own. Need to have her drive while I reach back and listin and search for it. Its a knocking noise when you hit bumps. Any ideas?

 

Door rattles are the worst....
Solution: Turn up the stereo
Dash buzzes due to headers & flowmaster 40's
Solution: Rev higher

I've got one rattle that bugs me a lot. it's the glove box fastner thing. it's loose and rattles a lot. do you know how to tighten up the glove box ****???

 

corvettemaster, can you bend the catch in a bit so it latches tighter and stop the rattle? maybe so

 

I'll have to try that tomorrow jvette. i'm worn out today...just spent the afternoon getting my monza tips ready to put on by shining up the chrome and repainting the black parts. i also took my spare tire carrier off too :smash:

 

The worst rattle I ever had is GONE for GOOD!!

And it wasn't even in the Vette. It was my last hot rod. I divorced her and sold the hot rod. No MORE rattle no more bad MEMORY! :boxing :bb :bs
