Default Help--timing cover leak

The timining cover leaks where it meets the pan...it apprears that the seal is not thick enough to provide a seal....I once heard there are two seals for a small block chevy, one is thicker than the other but I can't remember what seals on what chevys are thicker, can anyone help me??? :confused:

If you need an oil pan gasket, then the rubber Felpro one-piece gasket is the way to go.

Yeah...there are two seal thicknesses. Use a high temp silicone in corners while replacing.

I think early models used thin ones. Not sure what the breakdown is on usage but I'm sure you're not the first person to use the wrong one. Try that one piece one mentioned...heard they are good.

had this problem on my 79, it had a thicker seal, if you are just putting in a new timing chain cover gasket they sella kit for all seals you will need, also when putting in that arch gasket (the one that is leaking and you dont want to drop the oil pan) to make install easier clip the corners of the timing chain cover and gasket and rtv the corner and install will the rtv is not set up this will save you a ton of headachs, good luck. :crazy:
