On my 75 the hood seems to have drooped in the area of the fender bump outs. This is to the point where the hood closes fine but the corners of the hood at the windshield are well above the fenders. I have tried aligning the thing but have been unable to eliminate the problem. Is this a common problem with this era vette and is there anything that can be done short of a new hood.
Eckler's (and other companies) sell black rubber spacers that are placed in rails to remedy that. Should help in area toward windshield at the same time.
Yep, that's the problem. Mine is missing all but one of the rubber hood supports the factory installs. They are usually removed when the car gets repainted. I bought mine from Eckler's. Most restoration catalogs have them.
Dropping the hood to close (within reason..say 10-12" drop) will should work. If not, you close just lower hood and press down each side to latch. Time and heat should help hood conform more to the natural arc you need. Others may have their own way to lower hood but this is how I've always closed mine. Never any problems. Rubber spacers are glued on one side but you can trim the top down if they are too high. I would not just drop hood until I had achieved correct thickness with trial fits.
