There are some good write ups on the web. Same lock for Camaro and Chevelle. First you have to take out the tumblers. You will see a little slot up near the glove box back, I believe on the side closest to the door. Take a small cribe or jewelers screwdriver and push it into there (you will feel some give). You will be able to push in the first lock pin. As you push it in pull out on the lock from the front. You'll kind of keep wiggling and pushing the pins in until the lock comes all the way out. Once you have the tumbler out, you have to unscrew the latch from the face of the glove box. This is kind of a strange 8 sided allen kind of thing, but I have yet to find the right tool. You can use a large allen wrnche slightly smaller and kind of wedge it in and unscrew the assembly. I would suggest that when you have it out, glue the chrome key slot **** to the assebly undreneath as that bugger will rattle and drive you nuts. I finally found and insdustrial crazy glue to secure it. the rattle comes from the fact that that key slot **** is press fitted to the other assembly, but not tight enough. to re-install the tumbler you will simply start pressing the tumblers in as you wiggle it back in place. Much simpler than it looks, but it takes instrcutions to understand how to do it. I've had mine in and out a number of times. :smash: :mad :smash: :mad :smash: :D
I did a few things and the reattles seem to be gone permanently.
1-I made a gasket to fit between the lathc assembly and the glove box plate.
2-I coated the latch hook (mounted on top inside of glove box) with some of that tool handle plastic dip. (available everywhere, mine is black)
3-This is the big one.........glue the chrome key slot piece to the tumbler assembly. The piece is just press fitted onto the tumbler (not very well I might add), so a few dabs of high quality adhesive will keep it from rattling.
I have been driving mine for months now rattle free!
