Default HEI Curve Kit

i just bought a moroso HEI curve kit. I put it in and used the light springs...the only thing i was unsure of in the install is which way the centre piece goes in. it has an indent on one side and not on the other so i wasnt sure. Next thing is...which springs should i use. here are the specs on the kit.
spring 1500 2000 2500 3000 3500 4000 4500 5000 5500 6000 6500
light 6 8 14 16 18 20 22 24 24 24 24
med 0 2 4 8 10 12 14 14 16 18 18
heavy 0 0 0 4 6 8 10 12 12 14

i put in the light springs as i said and it ran good except i get knock just off idle at WOT. should i try one light spring and one med. or should i just retard my initial another degree or 2.???? As ive discoverd my timing marks are off by like 10 or 15 degrees so they are useless right now(i will get a new balancer ASAP) any thots on this and a description or pic about which way the little centre piece should go would be great!!
thanks guys
Garrett

First fix the balancer so you know for sure what TDC really is.

Second play with the springs ONLY with the vacuum disconnected.Once the engine runs the way you want, then reconnect the vacuum and deal with the vacuum advance that it adds.
I went through this not long ago and had more trouble with the vacuum advance than the mechanical.Check out my website for details.
