the car runs smooth, but when the engine is warm and i go trough the gears at full throttle(of course only 1st and 2nd :D )right away it starts to stutter and wants to shut down,no idle.if i turn the engine off for a couple of minutes, everything is fine.sofar i replaced the plugs, wires, points, dist.cap and the coil.does this indicate a problem with fuel delivery, meaning its starving for fuel after WOT?
thanks for the help
Can you go WOT right away again, even if she's stuttering adn shaking? If so it can't be fuel starvation. In that case my guess would be too rich of a mix. check the float levels.
Re: engine gurus: Stuttering after WOT (Turbo-Jet)
i can accelerate 1 time through the gears with no problems, but when i slow down right after, thats when it starts to sputter and wants to shut down,no idle.i can still rev the engine but if i engage the clutch it just dies.
what kind of carb do you have? I had the same issue with my truck, but it slowly, "actually quickly" got worse and worse, pretty soon it would occure after jut cruzing at around 60, then 40, then 10, then it just died. the metering jets were just worn out.
can you hold a high RPM rev?
You did not indicate the type of carb on your vette. If you a running a Q-jet with that little silly fuel filter I woud suggest you remove it and install an external inline filter. I had a hell of of a time years ago when I owned a 72- 454. By replacing the filter, that solved my problems. Good luck
When I changed the needle-seat valve on my Demon I had the float level a little high and had the EXACT trouble you describe. After hard accelleration it would want to die if I didn't give it throttle. Lowered the float, trouble disappeared. Good luck!
See on the tops of the fuel bowls the screw on top of the nut? Loosen that screw a little, just enough to turn the nut, and ... turn the nut. Clockwise to lower, Counter clockwise to raise. They can be adjusted independantly and it can also be done with the engine running. The benefit to this is you'll be able to watch the changes in the sight glasses (seen on your first photo near the inlets). Bear in mind that adjusting downward won't have an immediate effect. It will take a few moments for the fuel level to drop.
You may wish to mark your current fuel level so if this doesn't fix your problem, or creates another (carbs are great for that), you have a setting to return to.
