Default Tach problem....

Since I've had the car I've noticed my tach to rest at 3k rpm's. When I start the motor it jumpes to 4500. Give it a little gas and it redlines. The tach is obviously working, it's just set way to high. What can I do to fix this?

Sounds like a fault with the printed circuit board on the back of the tack, you may be up for a new one.Check for burn marks on the board, you may get
away with cleaning it.

I think that if you pull the needle off, and put it back on such that it reads 0 when the car is off, everything will be ok. The internal electronics doesn't have any way of knowing which way the needle is stuck on.

I think I'm gonna try just to set the needle at zero as mentioned. How do I get the needle off? I was looked at it but I couldn't tell how it's fastened.
