Gas Mileage
Yep guess that new Stroker is broken in WELL now! :yesnod:
With my OEM 350, my gas mileage was 10 on a good day and 10 on a bad one. Since the heart transplant in the car I've checked it now and then but not often. NOw she has about 4,000 miles on her.
When I filled up for our cruise last weekend (visit http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=547475) I figured I'd record mileage to see how it went. Yesterday on the way to work I used up the last of that tank and figured the mileage.
I got well over 13MPG!! :flag In fact closer to 14 and I am just amazed.
Hmm, guess that means that I didn't choose a hot enough cam when I built this thing :nono: :steering:
Congratulations. Mine varies a LOT. Last year I'd fill her up every 100 miles and she'd take 5 gallons exactly. 20mpg 'Course, that was during the break in and I was driving... gently. Since then I've changed the timing (backed it down a bit) and find myself in 15 territory when driven gently. Driven normally 13. Being naughty... well let's just leave it at "single digits."

I have driven both of my 73's on a major trip (Austin TX to Bloomington Gold) and both got right at 13mpg. One is an L82 auto with 3:55 gears and it averaged 12.9. The other is an LS4 4-speed with 3:08 gears and it averaged 13.1. :D The big block did better then the small block
By the way, my 90 L98 auto, on the same trip, got 25.4 mpg :yesnod: :yesnod: Then o/d transmissions are great :D
I wish I go that, I am getting right now about 10 miles per gallon, with no horse play with horse play I get about 7 miles per gallon. I can practically watch the gas gauge go down :auto:
I average 16-10 depending on the go fast pedal action. unsure to tell since I only drive for fun. It's easier just to have a chevron truck follow me everywhere I go. BTW I can only fit 11.3 gallons in the tank, WTF over??!!!
wow, that's good! i don't know what's up, but my 81 averages 10 mpg. sometimes 11 and that's driving easy. i've seen the one digits many times. i guess the previous owner getting rid of the computer controlled q-jet killed the gas mileage for the car
I remain amazed at all the Vette owners who get such horrible mileage. I would probably get about 4mpg driving hard at the track, I do get around 9-10mpg if I do a lot of stop and go driving, but I get 14-15mpg with steady highway cruise. This is with a 427 L88! My69 L46 4 speed, 3.36:1 gears got 22+mpg consistantly on highway cruise. My 79 L82 automatic w/ 3.55:1 gears only got 17mpg on the highway.
Are you guys only driving a few miles before shutting down? An engine runs very rich until it warms up. I think many of you would really benefit from some chassis dyno time with an O2 sensor welded into your collector to measure mixture at part throttle operation. I think you are running way too rich or your ignition timing at cruise speed is way off.
My family made numerous trips from Chicago to Florida or Colorado when I was a kid in the 60's and early 70's. Whether it was in my Dad's 472cid Cadillac DeVille or Mom's 400cid Pontiac station wagon, 18mpg at 75-80mph was standard mileage cruising the 1000 miles between Chicago and Denver on I80. There are only a couple reason a lighter, more streamlined small block Corvette shouldn't do considerably better: Needs a tune-up, high numerical gears, choke is stuck, or riding the brake. I know it can't be your driving! :D

You are correct about that. I try NOT to drive the Vette on short trips though. And there will be fewer and fewer of them now, since I just changed jobs. I'm now working up the freeway 20 miles so it is a GREAT run each way.
My ZZ4 gets 16 to 18 when I stay out of the fun pedal. It drops down to 10 to 12 with the fun pedal engaged. The last time I checked it was on a trip from the North Carolina coast to Northern Virginia and I got 18 MPH on the highway. :hurray: I can live with it.

"live with it??" Hell, I would be overjoyed and Stereophonically Amplified!!! What transmission and gears do ya have?? I'm running Turbo 350 and 3:08 gears.
BTW, I usually get over 20 mpg out of my 82...Hmmm Crossfire fuel injection with a 700R4 isn't so bad after all
Dawg, I got 23+ @ 75 MPH, T-tops off, A/C on 'high' during the only 'real' trip I've had my '82 on (240+ miles, round-trip) since I got it! if I'da had the tops on, the A/C off, and not driven over the mountains, maybe I'da gotten 25 MPG? My 12-second Z28 (355", THM400, 8"/4500 RPM converter, 4.56:1 gears), on the other hand, gets 'about 2 MPG, or 1 run per gallon.....
