Re: The best engine hoist? (Spook)
If you go to my HP there and look to the left of my red tool box/junk pile...you will see a blue cart/bars which is my cherry picker....bought from a tool rental place for 150 bux, American made, steel wheels, KD as you can see, and it's large enough to do any engine in anything short of a major truck, or school bus size thing....I have never used a leverer device, I consider them more of a PIA than not having one, I have allways gone diagonally across engine with a short chain, lowered picker to a well centered spot, and had at it.....engines balance well by themselves....I preferr to pull engines and trannies separately, WHY?? very damn few cars allow pulling the tranny tailshaft out from under that firewall without having an EXTREME angle on the thing, meaning the engine is over top of the radiator cross support, and the tranny fluids are all over the floor, something allways happens to make sure that takes place...it's just NOT worth the hassles....
I just center drill and tap a 3/8 bolt into my floor jack for a piece of plywood or block of wood for a tranny support, that makes everything SO easy I have a decent pair of stands....really tall, fairly massive so getting the tranny out from under the car is easy too....
I find with the tranny on the floor jack with a board on it, and the engine balanced, I do all this stuff by myself with little difficulty, first off, get your temperment cool, your heart rate down, kill the excitement and hurry attitude, take your time, and it's a piece of cake.....plan ahea d too that helps....
