I am about to replace the whole carpet of my -72. I am sure many of you have gone through that process, and I would value your tips, advice and notes of caution. is there anything special that I really, really want to consider before and while doing it?
What to do in which order, and what not to do...?
Can you suggest any good source (vendor) for replacement carpets. Corvette Trader has a lot of ads - is there anything else besides the price that I want to be concerned about (quality differences...)?
I prefer molded carpet and a non- cut pile. Less fuzz and better wear. Corvette America sells it as does Eckler's. You may want to put down a sound/heat barrier while you are at it. Check floor pans for rust and remedy that while you are there.

Thanks a lot for the info so far. Every bit of advice is greatly appreciated!
Any other suggestions?
As you can see from the # of post, I am new to this site - I have been lurking for quite awhile though. I used to have a -80, but sold it a few years ago. But once you get the Corevette fever it sticks into your bones/blood. Just recently I ended up with this -72 I now have.
Most of the vendors uss ACC Carpet. If you do a search you will find that most people buy from, The Last Detail, Zip, Echlers, or Willcox. Shop around and find the best price. I just finished this on my car, email if you have any questions.
1) Take your time
2) Measure twice, cut once
3) Buy the best you can afford
4) Consume minimal beer during installation, celebrate your accompishments later
5) Add sound/heat insulation
6) Use soldering iron to "burn and seal" holes instead of cutting
I just did this last year using Corvette America materials. It took longer than I expected and it all fit perfectly except the right rear section. You will have some minor trimming to do which is why #2 is so important I ALMOST trimmed too much and was very close to ruining the entire section.
Good luck .... show us the pics when you're done!!

:iagree: i bought my seats from Wilcox because i was so impressed with there friendliness and helpfulness...
when i asked about carpet they were happy to send me samples of the type and colors that i am considering...
in fact the owner himself and i shared several emails back and forth concerning my questions etc...
i like that kind of customer relations... :yesnod:
How did that work out? I have a replacement carpet in mine and it looks like one. I was considering going to an upolstery shop thinking they would do a better job fitting the carpet. Can you tell the difference.
Signguy :seeya
It's me again! Could you send me the owners email address? As you know, I'm restoring my seats, & the carpet on the backs is fit for the bin. So I'm after somewhere that will sell me just those 2 pieces :)
And you're not wrong about good customer relations being important :mad
edit: Carpet installation - I'm changing my front carpets at the moment & was told by a Vette restorer to do it on a warm day & run the engine for a while with the heater on full blast to get the interior nice & warm prior to fitting the carpet. Apparently this will help prevent any problems with the carpet moving at a later date.
