This afternoon on my way home my windshield wipers started going. They would cycle once, wait 3 seconds, cycle again. Most disturbing about this is that my wiper switch is in pieces in my bedroom, at least 1/3 mile away from me when this happened. I grabbed the 3 wire plug thinking it had grounded on something but found it was touching nothing and wiggling it didn't change things. Eventually it stopped but I thought I'd ask you guys if you've ever had anything like this happen. Have you? My mother's minivan does the same thing some times. Must have parked them too close together or something.
Re: Wipers working without switch. (Cookwithvette)
My vette does that... I've had to leave them unplugged for the last year. Fine for me since I never drive in the rain anyways. I was only caught in the rain once, just pulled off the road, poped the hood, plugged in wipers... then off I went :jester
Re: Wipers working without switch. (Cookwithvette)
There is a switch in the gearbox of the wiper motor that provides for the storage position. My guess is the switch has malfunctioned from wear on the cam it rides against and is causing the wipers to re-cycle. You might get lucky if you remove the motor and take the cover off for close inspection. You might be able to bend the arm of the switch slightly to compensate for the wear that has occured. :steering:
Oh, wow. You know, it started doing that after a bunch of bumps and stopped after I hit a pothole. Normally I miss that pothole but I was distracted by psychotic wipers at the time. Thank you very much.
