Default Ignition Timing

Installed an Edelbrock carb to my 80. Do I need to change ignition timing to that shown in manual with standard carb

Your ignition timing should be set to optimize performance, not set at an idle speed. You want to have about 32-36 degrees of total mechanical advance by about 3000 RPM (vacuum hose off and plugged). If you don't know how to check for this, then check out Lars' paper on the subject.

Changing the carb should have no effect on timing needs. As already posted, you will get the best performance by re-curving the distributor to allow for total advance by about 3,000 rpm. Most stock distributors don't reach total advance until past 4,000 rpm so you'll need to replace it's springs to do so.

Contact Lars about obtaining one of his recurve kits. Best bang for the buck! :yesnod:
