Default 69' Gas tank replacement

I have gone through the forum archives and found some interesting feedback on replacing gas tanks. I have a 69 conv. My ideas is to replace everyting straps, bolts etc. What about painting the tank, is it necessary. If so what kind of paint would you use. Any tips would be helpful

I don't know that painting the tank is necessary, but I suppose you could do it. You could clear coat it if you want to keep the stock look. They come galvanized though, so I don't think it would really be necessary. A lot of our cars were daily drivers back in their earlier days, but most of us now take very good care of them and garage them, so I think a new tank would last you a really long time. What you might want to do though, is check on the condition of your fuel hard lines. I have seen some dangerous looking ones posted on here. Wouldn't hurt to clean up and paint the frame rails back there as well.

I cleaned up the tank and sprayed cold galvanizing on it to protect. Painted the straps with POR15 and you'll need some tar paper to make the anti squeek gaskets from. Should replace the strainer,O ring and gasket too.
