I know i havent gotten to the right start with some of you out there, but you have changed my mind on some things. Ive decided to dump the nos and build my engine. Yes i do not know much about it, i think im gonna start with the top end. What would be a good cam choice for a 350? if someone has a built 350 and wants to post some of their modifications id be greatly appreciative. Any tips to building this engine to get some good hps would be most helpful, i want to give Nopi a run for their money.
Ebbsvette,
I read those other posts, sorry, looks like things got kind of screwed up one way or the other. Anyway, If you have some more specs on the engine you have now, it might be easier to match some top end components to it. Do you have a GM part # for your motor? If you are still thinking of going with a blower someday, you'll want to keep your compression under 9:1 I would think. You may be just as well to sell your current motor complete,, (bonus is people can hear it run and see it drive), and use the proceeds to put towards a new crate motor that you would be more certain of the build specs. Don't know if any of this helps, just hate to see a post go down without any replies. Good luck!
assuming your 350 is one of the mild mid-9's compression Goodwrench ones, I think most guys choose something like Comp Cams 268, which a ton of guys on the forum have. In addition to that, a new intake manifold (again, tons using Edelbrock's performer/performer RPM-the RPM will give more HP than the performer, and at a higher RPM range). You said you already have headers, so you're set there  . You've probably got a good 650 cfm carb, so I'd ignore that, and your distributor is probably an HEI unit, so again, I wouldn't worry. I guess you'd want to focus on the Cam and Intake Manifold. Personally, from what i've heard and from what I have, I would go with the 268 and the RPM, but that's my two cents. Seek and Ye Shall Find  You should also check with a technical line to speak to someone who can set you up as well. Your rear end gear as well as the stall of your torque convertor will also play a large part in determining cam choice
