My brother wants to buy an early 80s Vette and I was wondering about the average cost and performance of these particular models. I am a Stang fan who loves vettes but I dont know too much about the older ones.
Thanks
Well you cant really say what an average cost of operating one is...it never ends, youll always be dumping money into them.82 has cross fire fuel injection,so if hes looking to get one thats injected thats the only year in the c3's.Theres always something youll need to do to them.Cost really depends on condition of the vehicle, hell look at anywhere from $7500-25,000 for a decent vette.
Yeh, the '83 4 speed convertibles are the hardest to find, especially in yellow ;)
But they have a very bad rust problem being that they were the only year built with a steel body ;)
Its cool if you mock me because Im a Stang fan and a new member in general. Im not that green though and I know that they only made 1 Vette in 83 right. Actually I live close to Bowling Green and I visit the Vette Museum and Plant usually every year, often when Im there for the NMRA shootout with my Stang. Anyway we found an 81, ugly brown, and in pretty decent shape for $5000 and was just wondering if it is a good price.
Thanks :nopity
Sorry for the hazing but all rookies must endure it. But take heart, after the hazing is over you get a :grouphug: .
Best thing to do is search websites and e-bay  for vettes of teh saem year and cond of the one you are looking at. That will give a pretty good idea of what they are selling for. Make sure the frame and windsheild post are in good cond, vettes do rust.
Welcome to the forum. Glad to see you have a sense of humor & knowledge of America's sports car, the Corvette. :D
$5K might be a great price or it might be way, way too much. As Fevre said, first thing to check for is rust--look in the trailing arm pockets in front of the rear wheels and around the windsheild frame for bubbling. There's a good checklist for what to look for at http://www.corvettefaq.com
I hope it works out for your friend. Maybe someday you'll come over from the dark side, too. :D
Welcome to the forum.
My susgestion is don't buy the first car you look at and do a search " How to buy a corvette " it 's going to give you some susgestions and links. Like the other said it can be from $3000- $18000 so it can cheap found or ways over paid. Stay around this forum for a while then you know how to buy and fix and what year of vette you really like.
Thanks for all of the help guys. And yes I do want to venture into the dark side in a couple of years or less. I actually want a C4 body style though. Something about them that turns me on. Then my garage would be complete with the Stang and Vette--big boys toys.
