OK wife doesn't want to drive the vette everyday...wants another car....
but money is tight, she can raise maybe 500 bux.....so I just inwardly laughed and went shopping the back lots around town....
'80 4 cyl mustang auto 500 bux.....haven't seen the car....dunno a thing...
'93 escort 4 spd runs....500 bux.....seen it, but couldn't start, dealer is a jerk...
'94 Saturn 4 dr 5 spd, twin cam engine....needs head work...at minimum...BUT the a.c has pressure 134 valves in it...500 bux....
'93 eagle Talon 1.8 mutsi engine that supposedly won't run because of a bad rod bearing that tossed supposedly engine is locked....dunno for sure...car is really SUPER clean in and out, not much of a ding or scratch O/drive auto....400 bux..maybe less IF I make offer....
'92 escort 300 bux, needs front fender, supposedly just head gasket...hummm.......300 bux....
There's a decent 90ish Eldorado up the street from me for a grand - maybe he'll take an
offer - but the shipping is gonna kill ya. :lolg:
Let's face it, though: $1000 these days still buys you a bunch of problems.
I have an 81 Mustang - enjoyed it while it was driven. It used to be a 4cyl auto.
Now, it's a 5sp 5.0. Junkyard parts are common for this generation of 'stangs.
I think that body style ran 79-93. Shared the motor with Pinto, etc.
Keep looking, I guess - but you'll be fixing anything you pick up for $500.
Well IF other things had gone right on the monay side, we'd be buying her a Miata of some sort for a few grand...but tha'ts not in the cards right now...
thing is Jax Fl. is a car town, everyone runs hell out of their cars..meaning very high mileage....not much rust in the westside/Orange park..as we are about 50 miles from the ocean....and no salt on roads...
so the biggest thing is sun damage, paint peeling, and of course body damage...
at this point I"m leaning toward the Eagle Talon but rebuilding that engine is expensive...I know, and a lot of work...but looking ounder the hood, for a FWD car, it's not so bad...not TOOOOO many cuss words should be uttered...
tranny looks average...
so the thing is for say 3-400 bux...good clean car in and out....glass nice, wheels/tires match even yet....paint good, clean undented...interior just sun faded...dye can fix that...color is white...good for florida SUN!!!.....
only thing is that crappy aluminum headed engine....
good luck. Sometimes you can pick up a used MR2 for pretty cheap, but I don't think for $500. Maybe if it has some body panel damage I've seen them that low. Best to look around the universities this time of year when students need to get rid of cars and move away.

If you can find one, a 88-92 Mazda 626 or MX6 is dependable transportation
and cheap to fix ( I used to manage a Mazda dealer's parts department). I also gave away an 1986 Toyota Corolla. Bet those are worth about $500 now. It was a very reliable car. VERY slow, but reliable LOL! :lolg:
Escorts were made by Mazda back then too. That would be a good choice.
OK wife doesn't want to drive the vette everyday...wants another car....
OK, keep shopping or what choice???
Err...although it would be more expensive initially, I believe it would be easier to get rid of the wife! (Plus, YOU'LL then drive the vette every day)
