Underneat my bill mitchell 850 Holley ,i have a holley strip dominator on top of a 468 bb.it has 11:1 CR , a copy L88 cam , solid lifters and hooker sidepipes.
i am thinking of changing to a dual plane manifold for better off idle driveablility.as it runs now,it stutters up to about 1500 RPM and then it gets smoother and from about 3000 rpm on it goes like st!nk.
anyway , i'm ready to sacrifice some high rev's for better all araound driving performance and i'm wondering which manifold to choose. :steering:
Re: engine experts! which manifold should i choose (java0881)
do you have oval port or rectangle port heads? The performer rpm is a dual plane intake that should come on a little earlier. are you running a four speed or auto? If it's an auto, maybe a little more converter.
Re: engine experts! which manifold should i choose (java0881)
Those are rectangle port heads... You have 11:1 comp? Running pump juice through a carb on an iron headed bbc? Anyway. If you want to smooth it out and retain the power of the solid cam I would suggest switch both cam or intake or picking a cam that better fits the design of the manifold you're currently running. 'Blueprint' cams, unless you're TRYING to be stock, which you obviously aren't, are VERY antiquated by modern cam profiles. If you want to stay with a flat tappet, there are hyd. flat tappets on the market now that will offer both drivability AND kick the **** out of your blueprint L88 cam...Solid? They really come to life and still offer good drivability with excellent low and midrange without sacrificing the top end. Roller cam, hyd. or solid? Now we're talking...But, I can understand you not planning a cam swap so the expense of a roller is probably out of the question. But before you spend hard cash on a different intake I would swap the cam for something a little more...modern.
