Default T-Stat = Smoke

I put in a 180 tstat per group recommendation. Although my gauge isn't really reading much higher, I am getting a noticible better burn in fuel and the motor warms up much faster.

Now the fun part. I go to take off across an intersection, just a nice fast take off with out dropping the clutch and I tach out in 1st go to 2nd and smoke just comes a rolling in my window and the intersection is filled with a white cloud and the smell of fresh burned rubber. First time I ever got the tires to smoke.

One thing bad, I only left one mark accross the 4 lanes. Aperently I don't have posse. Guess I better burn the rest of these tires up before I put my new ones on.

I still have the old carb on, the Holly 650dp is being rebuilt currently. Should be on next week.

Just an fyi I have 336 rears.

Nice ride!

Those keystones rims? Always liked the black insets.

you might want to put fresh fluid in the rear with an additive to get the posi working again.

Any 80W90 rear diff fluid. And GM Posi additive (4 oz.) costs around 7 bucks.

Good luck.

I am doing mine soon too....

:iagree: And after you put it in find an empty parking lot and run the car in circles at low speed to work it in. Alternate your circles (clockwise/counterclockwise) and don't be surprised if you hear a few clunks as things start to loosen.

A little  , seems if you are leaving only one mark your clutch pack might be gone. Now if you where leaving two marks and getting 'clutch chatter' around corners then I would think a fluid change might help. But since your posi isn't catching I don't think fluid is going to do much unless the fluid is the consistency of grease and not allowing friction in the clutch pack.

I'm sure someone will jump in if I'm mistaken but I believe positraction (limited slip) did not became standard until the 1970 model year.
