Default Transmission Crossmember

I am about to make my first mod to my 1980, dual exhuast. I need to replace my transmission crossmember with one that will allow me to run my exhuast straight back from the headers. The post http://<a href="http://forums.corvet...?id=551082</a> had pics of exactly what I need, but upon inspecting bowtieoverdrive.com I learned that the crossmember doesn't fit a manual (which is what I have). Can anyone point me in the right direction? I don't want to use the pre-1980 crossmember with the two holes for exhaust because It would be troublesome to switch back to stock exhuast if I need to get an inspection sticker.

Also I was wondering if there is any difference between the Dynomax ceramic coated headers (WLK-86008 on summitracing.com) and Hooker Comp headers(HOK-2456-1 on summit) that would justify the large price difference? or would yall recommend a completely different set entirely? And I was also wondering if anyone had sound clips of a borla exhuast system on their vettes, right now i'm looking at dynomax ultraflows and wanted to compare.

Thanks Alot for your help guys, love this place!

Adam

Hey devalis -

I changed my '80 without changing the cross member (auto trans). Ran the duals straight back without any problems. The drivers side only hangs about 1.5" lower than the passenger side. Drove all over, never go 4 wheelin' :D , and have never scraped at all.

Hope this helps.

You could clearance your x-member on the drivers side as is done on the passenger side. Most any welding shop could probably do it for you. You might also look at the dual exhaust from mid-america. They have one that runs both pipes around the passenger side. I had one installed on my car.

I built a new one for mine out of stainless square stock to accomodate my 4L80E transmission. My old cross member is for sale if you are interested. It's out of a 1976 Vette and has the two holes for pass through exhaust. I'd take $80 plus shipping. It is missing the emergency brake pully though. I re-used it on my new one as shown. You can probably find someone on this forum that also would sell one to you. Best of luck to you.
Jim
