Since replacing the radiator, shroud and radiator seals, and putting a thermostat in the car (180 degree), I have yet to see the temp get above the tick mark between the 100 and 210; I guess that would be 155 degrees if the gauge is accurate. I have a new Stewart Stage 1 water pump which supposedly increases the flow rate by 40%. Regardless of that, is this a normal indication? I haven't had the car out on a hot day in slow traffic yet.

Any where from 160-200 is normal with anything b/t 200-210 being acceptable but not ideal.
If you have a 180 thermostat that is working properly the engine should be at 180, because the tstat won't open and let coolant circulate until it hits 180.

edited to say: If I remember correctly( I haven't driven my car in 2 yrs) the gauge goes from 100-210 on the first half and then 210-260 on the second half, which means the gauge is progressive(the temperature readings between marks is not the same on both halfs of the gauge) so the tick mark you speak of should be close to 180*F. Someone with more experience please tell me if I am way off on this one.
I know the temp gauges are cheap instruments and are not calibrated. Perhaps the tick mark is or equates to 180 degrees on my car. I know the thermostat opens because the water flows through the radiator and feels hot to the touch. Oh well!

I just did the water pump with a stage 2 and the correspoding modified 180 T-stat. Mine runs about one needle width above that tick mark now. Used to be around 220!
