Just joined the board, hope to learn a little more about my C-3. I have a 74 I bought almost 3 years ago at a drug auction. I has a wide body kit, real pimped out interior, L-82 with one of the old Edelbrock cross-ram intakes with 2 Holly 390 CFM carbs.
Most of the above is about to change! I have built a hdy roller 496 that I had dynoed a week ago Tuesday. The best pull it made around 580/580 with a really flat torque curve. It had over 500 pf torque from 3000 to 5900 rpm.
The questions: Has anyone ran a 700R-4 with 500+ pf of torque, did it live? I bought a 700R-4 from BowTie Overdrives around 3 years ago, then went a little more on the engine than I planned! BowTie still says it will hold?
This is going to be a fun car, on the street. No big slicks or going to the strip every weekend, but I will drive the heck out of it and hit the strip once or twice a year. How much trouble can I expect out of the rear end with 500 pf torque and the low (3.06) 1st gear of the 700R-4? I am planning to put a new Eaton posi and may change from 3.55 to 3.73 gears.
That sounds like a fun project - LOTS of torque.
I went to a drug auction, too. My only winning bid was on this big bag of crack. :jester :lurk:
I'd worry about the Ujoints in the half shafts with those numbers and higher gears.
You're gonna break something someday - if you really get on it.
I would consider half-shaft loops. Just ask the guys that have put half-shafts through their body. Ouch.
Welcome - learn - share - and get some linkable pics on the web.
You will be asked for pics - pimped or not.
This is as I bought it, it still has the 600 cfm Holly's. Almost everything under the hood is going to be for sale! Including radiator and A/C. Also, it is being painted black and going with 17" wheels, TorqThrust II's I think.
Welcome. Looks like you got some work ahead of you. :D
You might want to post your questions in the "engine mods" section too.
Not really 1970 Stingray, I gaveup on that work thing! I wish, fact is got to work more, just not on the Vette. I have a couple of restaurants (open 7 days a week) seems like every time I would open up a big part of the project I would be deverted for a week! It took me almost 3 years to do the engine, woundup getting the machinist to do the assembly for me. Really glad I did, he did a great job. I'm also a member of 454SS.com, the 90-93 454SS pickup trucks. Made a good friend there who has done alot of work for club members. He is also a machinist and does great work. We worked out a deal and I loaded it all up and hauled it to Alabama about 3 weeks ago. I'm getting the paint done there as well, for about 1/2 what it cost in the St Louis area. I saw some of the body shops work, it was good. I will let all know how the paint turns out!
Welcome! :seeya That current motor already looks pretty cool and that it might make some HP. That's going to be one cool Vette with the new motor. I'm kinda on the fence about the rear part of the body kit. I do like the hood though :yesnod:
