I change the L48 with an engine with more vroom vroom. It wasn't so bad considering that I was working outside. Mother nature has cooperate for the most part. I started to assemble that engine 6 month ago in the basement.
Took the old engine out.
Finished assembly in the kitchen. (Costed me a couple of dinner at the restaurant with the wife) It was too heavy to take it out complete from the basement.
It's been almost two weeks now running daily and everything is still good. Hope it stays that way. It's pulling a lot harder than before, I'm planning a trip to the dragstrip as soon as my exhaust is done.
im able to keep some vette parts in the house, but not a whole motor in the kitchen, that wouldve been divorce #2 for sure.seriously though nice job looks good.
Did your wife think about putting a round top on the engine and a nice laced cover over it? If you don't see it.... it ain't there. Good use of space either way. Kudos! Looks great by the way.
I don't even have a basement, but am thinking about rebuilding an engine in the 2nd bedroom (aka office). The garage is too small for the job and the car :D

Re: Now, I've done it...(new engine) (Brettmc)
If its been together for two weeks of driving, it should be with you for the long haul.
Good job. I too would like to know how you rolled that motor from downstairs to the kitchen, out to the garage.
Thanks to all, it's been a lot of work but now I'm so glad.

GEEZ!! how in the world did you roll that thing from the basement to the kitchen to the driveway!?
Well the initial plan was to assemble the complete engine in the basement and bolt two metal tube about 6 feets in the engine support hole. With 4 guys, it would have been easy to take it out. The problem was that the exit outside have a 90 degres turn that would have cause a clearence issue. So plan B was to assemble the shortblock in the basement and finalise the assembly in the kitchen. So I took the shortblock (around 300 lbs)in the stairs to get to the kitchen. With some help from the wife, we finaly manage to get it there. After that, the engine was bolted to the rack and assembled. From there it's rolled outside without a problem.
And for those who liked my tiles, well thanks!!
