Oh, and he was supposed to drive it to the cruise-in, I wonder what happened??? How could he put it up for sale a week and a half before that??? Hey, maybe the buyer will leave somewhere on the east coast and agree to let Steve drive it to the Cruise-In for pickup. That way we'd still get to see it. :D
Give the guy a frigging break! After all the tremendous amount of time energy and of course money Steve put into that thing he is taking a huge hit selling it at that price. I figure he got it about 95% to where he wants it, but it just takes too much more time, effort and $$ to get that last 5%. I'm sure he would have loved to drive it to the cruise-in, but I guess it just wasn't practical. Heck, I was planning on hiking down the Appalachian Trail and stopping in at the cruise-in but I just couldnt get enough time off from work and my training isn't going as well as planned. MJ

Merlin is an awesome car. Unfortunately less than 1% of America can afford to buy it AND keep it going. We all talk about how much money we pour into our cars. Can you imagine what it would take to finish that car and keep it running. Someone needs to email the link over to Steve's former boss at Microsoft.
before anyone does the "sour grapes" routine and askes "why would anyone WANT the car?" ask yourself this question: If I win the lottery, would I buy it?
I know I would! :D
MJ,
I flew out to Seattle and met Steve (among others out there) and I'm just giving him a hard time. He's one of the nicest guys around and I'm sure he's not thrilled with selling. Things happen. He learned a lot with this car and there are many things he would have done differently. The car is 100% complete, but he doesn't fit in it very well. He really needed to modify the body in order to fit, he's a very tall guy. However, he didn't want to modify the interior, but I'm sure he will on the next project. My guess is that he's selling this one to start on his next one. I already know what he has in mind. I'm sorry to see him sell it, and I'm just giving him a little crap for not going to the Cruise-In. I'm one of the few people on the forum that has seen this car in person, it's a very awesome car. I know Steve isn't thrilled with selling it, but I also know he isn't completely satisfied with it. He wants to start over on a new car, so he's selling this one.

too much for the street and too much $$ for a race car that won't meet rules at any track.
The thing that bothers me about the car is it's all engine and wheels.
There was very little suspension work done, certianly no more than the usual sway bars etc.
I mean it's beautifull and powerfull, but seems like a weird combo...
For 65k+ I would expect a roll cage, and some real suspension work.
OR, it would be a drag car and have been backhalved with a 9" and a 4 link.
As I see it it's a $50,000 engine , 5,000 wheels and a $10,000 car

It has the VBP Performance Plus suspension package and he even had VBP make different sway bars for it. They also put a lot of work into strengthening the frame to reduce flex. The car may not have a roll cage, but it does have a roll bar that is mounted to the frame. It's quite a bit more than "the usual sway bars, etc."
