Re: conversion to pointless ignition (REDSHARKONBOYDS)
On the unit I had the rivets that hold the pertronics 2 came loose. This cause the clearance between the unit and the magnet wheel to increase. With the gap between the two the unit could not sense the magnetic wheel anymore and it stopped working.
I think the latest issue of Corvette Fever has an article on 3 or 4 pointless ignitions. I'm thinking I will go with the XRi from Crane.
exactly where I learned of the Crane offering. I bought it from JEGS for $64 plus shipping and sales tax. Should be in later this week.
The Crane XR-i takes pulses off of the stock point "lobes" on the rotating shaft. I'm then going to keep the old points in the car as a backup should anything fail.
Re: conversion to pointless ignition (Mike Mercury)
Hey Mike
I'm going to tell you how stupid I am so be kind. It's been so long since I had points in my car that I don't think I remember how they go in. If possible could you take some pictures of the stock setup and how it's wired and post them so I can save them for reference. I have a set of points in the rear box but I'll be damned if I know how to install them if I get stuck. I've looked in all my repair manuals but they don't show the wiring detail. :bb :bb
There are a lot of little things I'll need to do before driving it because the car has sat for the last two years. I'll try real hard to remember to take pics of the distributor.
The wife is really excited since this is her car anyways. I'll be starting a new post about the project.
