Headlight stuck in up position, how do I fix?
I have been tearing apart my 78 for my full rebuild I am planning. The car is basically body and chassis. No interior and drivetrain. I raised the headlights by hand so that I could remove all the pieces form them that I could. Well I got the drivers's side to push down without any problem, but the passenger side one will not budge, it is like it is locked in place. Is there something special that I can try to get it pushed back down? There are some nice hinge poins and spring loaded parts that I could see crushing my finger with, so I figured I would check with the forum before I injure myself.

you should be able to reach up from underneath and pull on the hinge. on mine there is a threaded piece sticking out that i can grab with my thumb and forefinger and pull gently on, it comes right down. If headlights stay up, there is a vacuum leak or no vacuum.

Be careful raising your headlights by hand. If your actuators are the originals you may tear a hole in the rubber seal. Not too big of a deal to replace, but still if you don`t have too replace it is even better. One of the members of my club raised my drivers side to look at something. It did work on its own before that, but after it was never the same. I replaced both witches hats and the two accordian pieces and now it works like a charm.

Thanks for the replies. All good info. I am not worried about damaging the selas, or other similar parts as the car is a basket case right not and getting most /all items replaced. :cheers:
