Default A question about polyurethane paint.

My car was painted with polyurethane four years ago. The guy painted the door jambs but painted over the factory installed sticker on the driver's door. Is there anyway to remove the paint without damaging the factory ID sticker? The paint will not chip off (i tried).

I think if you mask the area off and use lacquer thinner carefully you should be able to remove the paint from the vehicle cert label.

Poly paint is pretty tuff, but you might try this. Chances are if he didn't bother to tape off the decal he probably didn't wipe things down very well be for he painted the car. I would take a q-tip and some laquer thinner. Soak the tip and start dapping a spot and rub ever so gently. You may have to try the same spot over and over, but don't rub. Just try and soften the paint and scrape a little. If you rub w/thinner on the decal it will be wiped clean of everything. Becareful and if thinner won't work try a reducer. Hold a rag under your work area so you don't soak the rest of the jamb area. good luck

I really doubt laquer thinner will do anything to polyurethane.

You'll probably have to use paint stripper...

laquer thinner would EAT the sticker and you would be stuck with a big spot of whatever color is left.

I would try some reducer.

Maybe if you hit it lightly with a heat gun to soften the paint a little? Not sure. In any case, good luck.
