My amp gauge on my 1972 L-48 quit working. The alternator is putting out 14.5 volts but the gauge does not move when a load is applied (a/c high fan, lights etc.).
Where is the first place to look? The guage reads 0 amps.
Same problem when I bought my 71. It wasn't the gauge which is the easy but expensive fix. Its a break in a wire, probably a fuse link, not gonna fix it....hard to get to.....
I installed a volt gauge on my cowl gauge cluster.
Get or borrow an amp meter. They are cheap at an auto store. Pull the panel for the gauges and transfer the wires off your's to the new one. Now see if the system is charging. This will confirm before you chase the wiring in the harness to the gauge.
Hi
Previous posts sayed that there is a fuse link inside the gauge. Some kind of very thin wire that burns out.
My gauge on my 68 is also inop.
I will only fix it once I have access to it anyway for some other reason.
