Obviously I have had a problem with sloppy shifter - so my tranny got into 2nd and reverse. Problem is, I cannot make to get reverse back to neutral (1/2nd and 3/4th I could get back to neutral). Disconnected the linkage and tried to move the triangular lever but without success.
What could be damaged? Is there any trick to get reverse out (maybe whiggle on input and output or else...)?
I noticed that the flat interlock plate in the shifter seems to have much room around it - shall I replace that with the thicker version which came with the shifter (stock 73, mounted to crossmember) rebuild kit?
Reverse is operated by shifting a separate fork on the tail housing. It moves the large gear on the main shaft to engage the reverse idler gears. Is the reverse fork moving? You may have to remove the tranny and open it to see if something is jammed in there?
Good luck,
Gary
Disconnect all the shifter linkages and use an adjustable wrench to shift in all the gears to see if the tran is messed up. If not, then your shifter needs a rebuild job or could be just simple linkages adjustment.
