I've had a few problems with my alternator belt squealing at high rpm's. I've tried all the usual fixes, with no luck.
One thing that I'd like to try is to install a double pulley on the alternator, and run two belts. I have an extra groove on the crank and wp, plus I'm don't have working A/C, so I figured why not? At the least, I like the idea of having two belts, in case one of them break.
Does anyone sell just the double pulley? Who makes a good quality pulley? Will the double pulley fit my alternator?

Re: Double Pulley Alternator? (shotgun_000)
I know you can get a deep groove pully from Moroso. It's made for racing applications, and we have used them in the past with no problems.
The only catch is that the pulley is a much larger diameter which means the alternator turns much slower and may not produce any juice until around 2-3K RPMs.
As far as a double, never saw one.
Try using a better belt such as one of the Good-year belts or a Gates belt. Maybe look for something that has a touch wider or deeper V to it.

Re: Double Pulley Alternator? (A C)
I have the same squealing problem since removing my A/C and I bought the small belt that goes between the crank and waterpump only, haven't installed it yet but it should do the trick. :D
I have the dual belt system on my 74R,It's pretty easy since i only have crank, waterpump and alternator...the crank pulley is a billet Zoops as is the waterpump,i can't remember where i got the alternator one from,i think it was on some old alternator that was lying around...john :chevy :seeya
Hi
I'm running 2 belts on the alternator of my 68 big block.
Water pump + alternator are all that need to turn on my Vette.
Sorry, can't help on where to get the pulley from.

I had a double pulley on my street rod, it came with the chrome alternator from the auto electric shop. You might ask your local rebuilder if they sell pulleys seperately. Joe
Yes, it's a NORTHERN universal alu rad, that's been slightly modified.
I rewelded both water necks due that they come stright out on the universal and I needed them angled. I also added the water drain fowl.
Plenty of posts in this forum about it, do a search.
