I bought my Black 1980 last year -I was 42- it was almost a birthday present to self. At that time the seller told me the other interested party was a lady who was going to buy for her 16 year olds first car. I suspect she wanted to kill him.

The car cost 7.5k, mods cost 10k and still going.

This is turning into a "first Vette" thread.
Anyway here's mine.
It was 1985, I was 26 and working for the phone company. Wanted something american and Chevvy. looked at Basketcases because that was all I could afford.
Found out about a '68 for sale and when I got there the guy had a '64 vert and the '68 vert for sale. Turns out I could have either for the same price but I wanted the '68. I took out a loan to pay $14K AUS for a basketcase.(at the time our dollar was $1.10-1.20 US. Currently its .65 but its been as low as .48)
3 years later I had done the conversion to RHD and rebuilt the motor and box myself but it still need paint(real bad-ask Aussiejohn). 6 years ago I started the body off it deserved and a rack to steer by. Its been back on the road for a year now and I love driving it!
If anyone gets a Vette they have to love it no matter how it came into their hands. If they don't, it will find a new owner who will love it real quick.

I was 20 when I bought mine. I paid for it with my own money. Parents did not give me anything for it. My dad has always told me ... By your toys when your young so you can enjoy them. After your married and have kids you don't get to spend the time with them like you used too. I bought the car for fairly cheap and have been putting money into it ever sense. I am 24 now and I would rather see a young kid drive a vette than a rice burner. At least they know what a real car is. The only time I don't like it is when they drive with no respect for the car or anyone else. Other than that I encourage it.

my dad bought the 79 when i was 6, i still remember bringing it home, paid 5k for it US, and about 2 weeks later he painted it. he had always wanted a vette and his back got to where he couldnt get in and out of it too well, so for most of the 11 years before i got my license it just sat around, would be driving once or twice a month max. Then when i got my learners permit, i bugged him to let me drive it, and i loved it. it was the first car i drove when i got my license. i sorta took it away i guess, and now im completely over **** about it, i mean, its not perfect, but every little thing has a place, and i take care of it more than i take care of anything else. i bought and put the motor in it, do all the mechanical work, and i am getting ready to paint it again. i am strictly anti-rice, but i dont really try to prove anything on the street, they arent grown up enough to know when enough is too much. the car has never been to a garage since we have owned it, and i plan to never take it to one. it is in our garage on rainy days, and i have the only set of keys :D

im a senior in high school, going to take pre-engineering in the fall and hopefully finish with an electrical engineers degree in about 4-5 years. when i get a good job and a house, the body is coming off, its a promise i made to myself a couple of years ago. thats what keeps me going in school

oh well....hehehe

btw, the reason the motor was bought was that after pricing the parts it was going to be wayyyy more expensive, i wish i would have went that route anyway, ive helped put together motors, but i have never actually put one of my own together, its the only thing besides auto tranny that i havent rebuilt myself
