Yeah, cool site. I actually bought my car off a guy advertising on there...
http://www.usedcorvettesforsale.com/out.php?id=2228
Funny thing was, know how he said "in good running shape, drive twice a month"? Not true - the transmission seals were completely blown, and the paint clearly evidenced months of sitting... I'm actually trying to get a little money back from him, as I'm facing a tranny rebuild/replace and a new paint job.
BTW, none of this was clarified in my phone conversations with him - found out when the car was delivered.
But, yeah, cool site, lol. I just needed to vent a bit!

Gotta watch out for those lawyers. They tend to look at things as what they CAN do not what they SHOULD do.
I know this doesn't help you guys but when purchasing a vehicle "sight unseen" let the seller know that if it's not in the condition they claim that you will refuse the delivery and that they will be stuck with the shipping costs both ways. If you can't get them to agree to this I'd think twice about buying.
Either they'll give you more information so you'll get an honest reply or they won't do it. Mechanical issues it's harder to spot, but it's a step in the right direction to ensure their honesty.

Sorry to hear about your problems, I find the site interesting as to see approx. values that the vettes are going for now.
