Ever find yurself typing the same basic answers to different questions time and time again? Seems like it would save some time to compose a standard answer list and save to file. Lets see, question,..blaa blaa blaa...yadda yadda yadda...hmmm, this falls into the catagory of standard answer # 23. Got to file, copy, paste ,post....done. Dont get me wrong cause I love to add my opinions and help when I can and plan to continue. Just seems like theyre might be a quicker way since so many responses are so common. Or could it be that im just a broken record?

I hear ya, but unless we stop allowing new members, OR educate newbies on searching prior to posting .. (yeah ... right) it will always be the way...

nope nope..i definatly wouldnt wanna discourage new members or anyone for that matter from participating and learning on here. I knew a fair amount about cars in general before becoming a member to this forum. I can say now that I know much more about cars in general and vettes specifically from being a member here. Great site.

My problem is when I search I find *so* much information it is sometimes simpler to ask the question... but when I do read all the previous stuff, I get a ton of (useless according to my wife) information...

I don't mind it. Also, if there was a list it would have to be updated as new procedures, techniques, etc. came about. I get enough of that at work updating documentation on our computer operations & programming procedures. Plus, new members feel more comfortable when folks respond to their questions.

Its a good idea and I see where your comming from.

But.... After I learn the answer to one of my questions I feel its my duty to post the answer to someone who has the same question. It helps to feel involved with whats going on.

The answer to this falls under standard answer catagory #82. :p: LOL

I see your point, but personally, I value everyone's opinion on the forum so I enjoy hearing what others have to say. Besides, maybe someone has a better way of doing something than the way that would be documented.

I'm pretty new on this forum and would hate to think that some was not going to "allow" me to post a question no matter how silly it may seem to someone that knows the answer,I appreciate the response I have received on every question I have asked :nono:

I believe the whole purpose of the Tech Tips section was to answer questions that are frequently asked...maybe it's not marketed well enough?

Jvette, I know exactly what you mean. I don't mind so much having to repeat the same information over and over again but I sure wish there was a way to get guys to ask questions before they had a problem. A good example of this is the frequent posts about problems after removng and replacing the distributor. Typically, the question is asked after the damage has been done (header coatings burned off, carb fire, new cam failed, etc.). I'd urge anyone that it complemplating any work to make a post and ask for advice before they started. None of us were born knowing more than how to suck a nipple so there is no shame in asking. When you do ask, please give as much information as you can. When did the problem start? Under what conditions does it occur? What changes were made? Model numbers of components, etc..

HAHA Matt you beat me to it....Good reply.

You could save the links to the really great threads, and post them to the newbie question.
But it's always fun to read all the new replies too.

Vetterodder, thats great input you said there. I wasnt quite thinkin along those lines of lack of info provided, but yur definatly right in that respect.

Rockn-roll, tech tips could be a great resource. I checked it one time though and it seemed like there wasnt much there. At least not much when compared to all the ongoing discussions that continue on the board. I havnt added anything there yet but since you brought it up im gonna check whats there, then brainstorm on what I might be able to add. Can forum members like me make a tech article and post it there?

Ide also like to say that by no stretch of the imagination was I complaining about answering the same questions again and again. I would never dis-courage anyone of any level from participating in this awsome forum. Thats how we all learn, teachers and students alike. I was just noticing the frequency of similar topics with they're questions and replys. In my original post on this thread I was exersising my thoughts into words. It was intended to be a sort of humorous notion. Im not much of a comedian though. It was definatly not intended as a complaint to, or put down of anyone. So if anyone takes it this way, you got me wrong. My knowledge is limited. Maybe its the fact that I reply with this limited knowledge that I notice the frequency. Most of the time I read posts with the intention of replying. Sometimes I elect not to, feeling that the subject matter is beyond my limited knowledge.

So keep all the questions comming. Im sure that many, including me are waiting to lend a helping hand when possible.

A couple of years ago I posted about FAQ's. I was trying to be helpful by stating that a lot of the repetitious questions were right in the owners manual and G/M service manuals. Well.... I got flamed big-time. I only meant it as a source of info but it was taken wrong so ....... :leaving:

I've noticed they same thing. Often as not though, it's a new owner that hasn't had a chance to aquire the reference materials that are essential to maintaining an older car. Reproduction owner's manuals and repair guides are readilly available and aren't that expensive. IMO, definitely a must have for any owner.

I guess some folks have thinner skins than others and some guys seem to have a chip on their shoulder. Fortunately it's only a few but it looks to me like they're just itching for an excuse to flame someone, even if they have to reinterpret a positive post like you made into a negative one.
