Default Quick Cam Install Question

My heads were off at the machine shop getting a valve job. The machinist asked if I needed my stems cut for a high lift cam. I told him no, because the stock cam in my L-82 OEM #3896962 has a lift of .450/.460 and the new Comp Cam 268H only has a lift of .454 so it wouldn't be necessary. I'm new to all this, so I hope I'm correct.
Also, are my stock valve springs ok to leave in for this new cam. I realize I can measure the compression of the springs once the cam is in, but I just wanted some advice up front since this cam seems to be popular, I'm sure the answer is out there.

The instructions for the cam kit also mention installing a new distributer gear, but I wasn't planning on doing that either. Should I?
Thanks.

Stock springs should be fine provided theyre in good shape. Only way to really tell is test them on a valvespring compression testing tool. I wouldnt bother with a new cam gear so long as yur looks ok. I never replaced a dist gear on a cam swap. On a billit roller cam it may be recomended.

Anyone using the 268H with the 333882 heads. I just want to be really sure before I install this thing. Whats the easiest way to measure valve clearance once it is installed.

I think you can get a set of new springs for less than $100, yours are 20+ years old so why not replace them?
