I want to paint the brake calipers on my car. Two questions for you kind folks: 1) I believe I need to use special paint that can withstand very high temperature, right? I assume this special paint would be available at my local auto store. 2) Is is possible to mask around the caliper and paint while it is still attached to the rotor, or must I remove the caliper to do a proper job. Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Painting Brake Calipers (Tele_Man)
I painted mine when they were off the car and I used some high temp paint I picked up at Autozone or Wally World. I guess you could paint them on the car but it would be pretty difficult to do. You can plugs at the auto parts store to minimize fluid leakage while the calipers are off the car. Maybe some others will chime in and have painted theirs on the car.
I painted my calipers with Krylon white primer, Krylon sun yellow and some clear from AutoZone. That's been about 3 years ago. All I do is wipe them off when I have the tires/wheels off. My experience is you don't need special paint. They just need to be VERY clean and free of grease/brake fluid when you start painting. I did it on the car so the backside is obviously not as well done as the front side but it looks very good.

Re: Painting Brake Calipers (timbo79)
I didn't use hi-temp paint. The calipers shouldn't get that hot. I used brush on Red Devil Polyurethan, Red of course. Brushed it one with cailpers on car.
