4 speed problem
hi guys, I have a friend that has a 75 Vette. He says that while accelerating the tranny will not stay is 3 gear. It wants to pop out. Does anyone know what would cause this to happen? Thanks for any help. Craig

He actually had a transmission shop work on it and has the same problem after the overhaul. He is trying to get some more information before he goes back again. Craig

More than likely it's the shift lever rod adjustment. The end of the rod should be threaded...adjust it so that the rod is shorter. Also there are two holes the rod can be connected to...he could try the other one if making the rod shorter causes the 4th gear to pop out. I've tried them on both holes and found that the hole nearest to the shaft (inner hole) caused some binding in the shift rods, so I use the outer holes now and the shifting is great. Did he replace his clutch? I've also had a problem with gears not staying put due to a tweaked throw-out bearing.

What did the shop do to it?In addition to the other items mentioned it could be the slider for the 3-4 or bad teeth on the gear. If you can't get it fixed by aligning the linkage then you'll have to remove it again to take a look.
