Carb advice for new BBC combo
I understand where you are coming from. I went conservative with my cam (solid 248/248 @ .050) so it will behave on the street. To compensate I will have at least a 200hp shot os N20 for when I want to "play". :reddevil
And the nitrous...well, it works great on my Z06. ;) I don't use it often at all, so I really like it b/c its there only when I need it and the car is plenty fast the way it is. On this roadster, I think 420-430rwhp N/A is going to be plenty of power and I'm just hoping to keep the driveline from nuking itself (no slicks or sticky tires).
Just another reason the smaller cam will probably suit me just fine for this particular application.

It held 14" of vacuum, and would lug to 1000 rpm in 5th gear ( same as you...Doug Nash 5 speed with 3.36's).
And remember, this was with a 1050 Dominator and a single plane intake!
On a 454, that small cam is going to be leaving way too much on the table and the larger cam can provide the manners. Now granted, the 244 cam I had was a solid, so that makes it act like a hyd, with 5-8* or so less duration. But you have a 1/4" longer stroke, a dual plane intake, a 4150 carb, and better heads.
And if you're changing carbs, go with the 950 HP. Or one of the Bill Mitchell, Carb Shop, Da Vinci or others that flow 1020 or so. Can't hurt and will have very sharp response. For sure stay with Double Pumpers.
Check out Edelbrock's site for some neat Tech reading on carb sizing. But don't use their carb....works great, but too ugly to put on a motor unless you have two of them! Also remember, dual planes like more CFM.
