Ignition Removal and Replacement, How Bad Is It?
My drivers side door will not unlock from the outside. I have removed and cleaned the mechanism really good and it still will not work. The door lock itself is the culprit. After removing it, it is easy to see the worn spot. Okay, now, I have to have new lock sets. All the sets I have seen come with the ignition lock also. How hard is the ignition to remove and replace? i am about to place an order so I was just wondering.

After removing the steering wheel and the security lock plate, the ignition cylinder is visible. There is a spring loaded tab on the side of the cylinder that retains the lock in the column. Take a scribe, long thin screwdriver, etc. and depress the tab. Then pull the cylinder out.
The hardest part of the job is the security lock plate (if you have one). You will need a plate compressor (or really strong thumbs) to depress the plate and remove the retaining ring in the middle. The compressors are available at any parts store for about $12.
