My corvette is an automatic and it has the L-82 base I think. I need to check the vin but I am in FL and the car is in IL. I need to figure out what type of cam to use and what type of heads to get. I am thinking about going all roller rocker becasue I heard that is the best stuff. Will I get decent gas milage if I put in a hotter cam and different heads because I want to get the HP around 300-350 I have an edeblrock intake and 600 carb and I put on headers and true duals 2.5in. Is there and difference in a corvette tranmission to a basic chevy trany.
AFR has legal heads, there are th ebest flowing for the size. Look at AFR 180 heads. hey are on the pricy side. Edelbrock has street-legal performer heads that are good also, a little cheaper. http://www.airflowresearch.com http://www.edelbrock.com
There are also the cylinder heads from the ZZ4 crate engine, aka, 'Vette heads. Search the internet for P/N: 12556463, these heads will increase your compression ratio due to the small combustion chamber. They support 350 HP on the ZZ4 crate engine with a roller cam that has a duration of 208/221 and 0.474/0.500 @ 0.05 lift.
Whoa! How long have you owned this car? I always recommend that you do NOTHING to a newly-purchased Vette for the first 6 months. Except necessary maintenance, of course. Just enjoy the car for a while!
Many new Vette owners have regretted the things they've done too quickly at first... :yesnod:
Well, this combo would probably be a bit mild, but you could get a pair of s/r torquer 305 heads and port them (i know, they have small valves compared to some, but as pointed out, the "vette heads" do ok... and they have the same size ones). The 305 heads also have 58cc combustion chambers (just like the "vette heads") and I do believe they flow well.
You could then go with a Crane CompuCam roller with 0.407/0.429-inch lift. You could go more agressive, the heads could handle it.
This combo made an 1987 z28 go through the traps in the 15 sec range... but they did have diff gears and a 700r4. Course you have the benefit of 45 more cubes. I believe the 305 and 350 had the same stroke. just diff bore? Oh, your compression ratio would probably be a tad lower.
This wouldn't be lightning fast, but fun to put around in and maintain good emissions and gas milage.
