Default Another hood question...

Does the lockdown mechanism on the driver's side of the hood have any kind of spring mechanism? I replaced the cable across the hood tonight and now not only does the driver's side lock down at all, but the passenger side will still not unlock. I can understand why as I can freely move the latch on the hood and there is nothing to snap it back. Did I break some spring that is missing? By the way... I have it down pat how to release the passenger side, so it is not a problem anymore.

Can anyone take a pic of the hood release mechanism on the driver's side? Here's mine. Notice that when I push the mechanism up to lock how the cable holder buckles upward. That makes it where the cable does not push across the hood to the passenger side. What... if anything is missing?

Hey,

That cable should not be so loose. What year car do you have? The cable used on 68 and E69 is a different length that the one used on L69/70/71 etc. I think the early one has a white jacket and the latter has a black jacket - not sure which one is longer....

On my L69 setup, there is a spring on the passenger side which is ued by both hood latches. The cable is black. The tab at the end of the cable is used to adjust the tension on the drivers side. There is another spring on the drivers side lower latch which is used to retract the release lever and cable after you pull it.

On my L69, the cable is fairly tight.. which keeps both latches partially pulled back from the fully released position.

I hope this helps. (I made a quick look under the hood - it late!)

Red69....

Thanks for the response. I'm thinking you have got to be right as the latches now just freely move, so there is no way for them to snap back. Some spring has got to be missing. When I got the hood stuck down I did alot of pulling & yanking from every direction to free the passenger side, so there is no telling what I might have snapped off. Now that you spoke of it, it makes since that the tension would be on the passenger side. I saw nothing on the driver's side, but I was concentrating on that side since it seemed like the *source*. I've got a friend at work who also has a '74 blue vert. I'm gonna have to make him bring it to work on Friday I guess to do some exploring.
