aftermarket hardtops?
Looking to purchase a 68-72 convertible, but one question.
Is there an aftermarket shop to purchase a hardtop if the vette does not come with one?
Thanks
Mark
Aftermarket tops were available at one time at least cause heres a pic of mine. I also have the originals. I need new hardware for these tops but I dont even know who made them, or if the hardware is even available. Its different hardware than the originals and wont interchange.
Is that picture of aftermarket T-tops ? I am not sure about aftermarket hardtops for convertibles.... If they exist I am guessing they would cost close to $2k. Your best bet, as mentioned above, is to buy somebody else's original hardtop. I bought an "ok" top (painted white) for $550. A real nice one will be over $1000. The vinyl (I assume it is black vinyl) is a great choice because you don't have to worry about matching paint colors of putting a red top on a green car! MJ
Corvette America sells reproduction hardtops...about $1300 and you have to wait 3 months, because they have to build it. my friend got one for his 72 and it looks and fits great!
I could have put you all onto 3 hardtops in the last few weeks as I was looking for one. And all were priced at $750. One(black vinyl) out of Michigan was pristine and a red one(red painted vinyl) in my area of Houston. The other one was out of Oklahoma. I bypassed on all of them as I decided to not dump more money into this project.
I'll give you a hint. Do a search on Google on "Corvette parts wanted". There are lots of sites to post your FREE want ads. Hopefully this doesn't **** off the forum, but this internet world is alot bigger than most think. I'm still getting responses. And if you are into high performance stuff... post an ad on *racingjunk.com*.... both buyers and sellers. All FREE.
I am pretty sure Ecklers carries restored hardtops for your convertible. But be warned (if I am remembering correctly), they are somwhere in the neighbourhood of $3500.00 US. Might be better to buy one at a Swap Meet or on Ebay and fix it up yourself.
I wasn't able to find them on the internet, but someone does make an aftermarket that they will paint tour spec or ship unpainted. Sorry. Right now, their are two on eBay. One in New Jersey, one in Iowa. I have my newest Eckler's catalog here at work and do not find a listing for one.
Yes there are some VERY nice aftermarket hard tops available, in fact, much better than the originals. I won't give out the website name because I don't believe they're a supporting vendor, so you can do your own internet search. But the company is Smoothline.

Good Luck! JimBRO
My mistake, I just double checked and they only make hardtops for 63-67 verts, and C5's. Sorry for the confusion.
