My '81 is my daily ride, so I hate to take it down.
To fix a coolant leak, I pulled the second from the front, driver's side, intake manifold bolt and gooped it with RTV blue. To my surprise, I was putting maybe 5 ft lbs of tourque on it when I found that it wouldn't tighten - stripped.
I'm driving it that way and just dabbing the green coolant and adding a little water once a week. I know that I should pull the manifold and re-tap or helicoil the head, but you know how one thing leads to another and I'd like to put off this repair for as long as possible.
Any one have a quick fix without removing the intake?
Thanks, Matt! Why didn't I think of that!!!
I measured the hold and was able to use a bolt 3/4 inch longer.
It tightened down perfectly.
...on the road again (or still!).
