Default How do I wire electric fans?

I have a Dewitt rad and dual Spal fans.

I just ordered one of these:

It has 3 ignition-hot circuits and a 40 amp relay. I want to use it for the Fans, pertronix, and maybe an MSD in the future.

Where is the best place under the hood to get:
1. a good strong constant 12V and
2. a good ignition source?

My guess is the coil for ignition and starter for 12V

What would be best or better?

Should I get a better higher amp Aternator?

If I were to get a high voltage coil should I use a better power source than the stock wires?

Thanks,
~Jay

Great choice in fans, I love mine. I got the 12v power directly from the alternator and have had no problems. The wire for the ignition I spliced into the yellow (at least I think it was yellow) wire that goes to the windshield wiper motor, and again no problems. Many other forum members have done it this way and seems to be fine. Though some people will argue that you need to wire the 12v power to the starter, but I dont think thats true. Either place should work the same.

If you have any questions let me know.

best is from the fuse panel, second best (if just using as a "trigger" for a relay would be one of the wires going to the windshield wiper. I know one of those is an ignition hot wire.

My guess is the coil for ignition
NEVER !!!! Never use the coil wire as a hot wire. You remove power from the ignition by doing this.
and starter for 12V

Summit racing. http://www.summitracing.com - look into the 100 AMP units. If you get a higher amp alternator then run a larger or a second wire from the alternator post to the starter. Using the stock wire will either restrict the output of the alternator or burn up the wire by drawing to many amps through the stock wire.

If I were to get a high voltage coil should I use a better power source than the stock wires?
Just make sure the wire is a nice quality mid-gage wire, you don't need to go overboard here.

Thanks,
~Jay

Thanks,

If I were to wire directly to the fuse block, how exactly do I connect the wires?

Is there a place in the back to add new wires?

The driver side of the fuse block has three spades in the center - Batt, IGN and ACC. Use the IGN spade.
