umbrella seals will work well on a street engine, just make sure the you have enought clearance betweev the top of the valve guide and the bottom of the the valve spring retainer. on race engines i use positive seal on the inatakes but use a umbrella seal on the exhaust because in the turns the g force will prevent the oil from getting to the lalve stem and may cause the valve to stick in the guide from lack of lubrication. :chevy
I have the houghes on my bowtie heads. Different bosses will be different (my bowties were .561") Most, if not all stock heads will be more than that. I had to spring for the machining because my valves had no place for the o-rings, and my dual springs had just to small of an ID on the inner springs for ANY other seals to fit. I went through box after box at NAPA, and into the machine shop was the final answer.
Positive seals are nice, umbrellas work great, o-rings came on millions of cars. By the way, the machining of guide boss is only about 50-75 cents each. (8-10 bucks for the set) if you have them off and disassembled.
