Re: can i use WD-40 while installing poly bushings? (79VetteMike)
shouldn't technically hurt anything. Poly is supposed to be nearly impervious to solvents, grease, oil... Didn't the kit come with the bushing grease (that sticky white crap). That's what I would use. Parts stores should have it.

If the kit has instructions follow them. However you want to have a grease in there, not just a water displacer like WD-40. Otherwise the bushings may tend to bind. If you have grease zerks in something back there, install them, and grease em periodically. If you don't (like me) get some bushing grease it is nice and sticky and should stay in there for longer than lithium grease. By the way, poly may not be the best answer for the T/A bushings. they need to have axial twist for the trailing arm to work properly. Ideally a Heim joint, but rubber is second best in THOSE SITUATIONS ONLY, otherwise poly. And heim, then poly everwhere that does not need to twist like the T/A's. I just worry about putting extra stress on things, but have NO ACTUAL EVIDENCE to support or dismiss my theory.
Re: can i use WD-40 while installing poly bushings? (boredsoIstrokedit)
Too late for a decision about what type of bushings to use- I don't want to have to replace them again, so I am using poly for everything. Anyway, the Van Steel kit didn't come with any instructions. How is the weather where you are? I am so sick of this Florida humidity. I'm moving to OKC next month-I can't wait. I've done alot of painting of chassis parts and done some sealant work here and there and this crap won't dry. I sealed the rearend cover this morning and the damn sealant is still sticky. I hate Florida!!!
Re: can i use WD-40 while installing poly bushings? (79VetteMike)
Oh god. Didn't even notice you were from florida. I was born in Minnesota and moved down here in february. It SUCKS. First being away from my car and most of my tools, and second this goddam heat and humididty. It has been 90+ now for almost three SOLID WEEKS. WTF??? I don't understand how stuff doesn't just melt. I guess all the freekin rain keeps it cool enough. In all reality though, it isn't really that bad. Good luck.
Re: can i use WD-40 while installing poly bushings? (79VetteMike)
It won't hurt but I understand the ideal lube is a form of marine, water-repellent grease. Someone with a better memory than me can provide a brand name and/or specs.
